Thank you so much for joining us in this interview series. Before we dive into our discussion about cultural sensitivity, our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you share with us the backstory about what brought you to your specific career path?

My journey into the world of intellectual property law and entrepreneurship began at a very young age, shaped by my immigrant family’s entrepreneurial spirit and my own innate drive.

My parents, both doctors, immigrated to the United States when I was just three years old. Almost immediately, they had to establish their own medical practice after the office my dad thought he’d work at shut down. Witnessing their resilience and determination to build something from scratch instilled in me a deep appreciation for entrepreneurship.

From a young age, I was always finding ways to make money, whether it was trading toys, selling drawings, or running a lemonade stand. However, it was my early obsession with the copyright symbol that hinted at my future in intellectual property law. That fascination stayed with me and became the foundation of my career aspirations.

When I entered law school, I knew exactly what area I wanted to specialize in. I even had the opportunity to work at the United States Patent and Trademark Office during my studies, which solidified my passion for intellectual property law.

However, my journey wasn’t without its challenges. I went through significant personal changes during that time, including moving states at the last minute and having to adapt my plans. But through hustle and determination, I landed a job at a rapidly growing startup firm, where I was the first of many associates hired.

Working at that firm was a trial by fire. I was given an overwhelming workload that I felt underprepared for, but it also provided an incredible learning opportunity. I grew more in that first year than I could have imagined, thanks to the fast-paced environment and the challenges I faced.

My passion for entrepreneurship and helping individuals and small businesses protect and monetize their ideas is what drives me every day. That’s why I now run my own law practice, working with a diverse range of clients, from celebrities and influencers to small and medium-sized businesses and creators.

Moreover, I believe in the power of education, which is why I regularly share free content on social media to educate Gen-Z about intellectual property and business. It’s incredibly rewarding to empower others with knowledge in this way.

In summary, my journey has been one of passion, resilience, and a deep-seated belief in the importance of entrepreneurship and intellectual property. It’s a path that has led me to where I am today, running my successful law practice and advocating for the rights of creators and innovators.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started your career?

One of the most interesting experiences I’ve had in my career recently was handling a case involving emerging issues with social media and AI. In this case, we were dealing with the challenges of applying traditional laws to the rapidly evolving landscape of technology. It’s fascinating because the law hasn’t quite caught up with the advancements in AI and social media, leaving clients in uncertain territory.

One particularly memorable case involved proving the value of a Kardashian shoutout on Instagram, which was equivalent to hundreds of thousands of dollars in advertising. Winning that case was a significant victory and showcased the influence of social media in today’s business world.

Overall, being at the forefront of these emerging issues and helping clients navigate this complex landscape to protect their intellectual property has been both challenging and incredibly exciting.

You are a successful individual. Which three character traits do you think were most instrumental to your success? Can you please share a story or example for each?

Reflecting on my journey, three character traits that have been instrumental to my success are resilience, adaptability, and passion:

Resilience: I’ve faced plenty of challenges in my career, from tough workloads to personal changes. But instead of letting them knock me down, I’ve used them to learn and grow. It’s all about bouncing back stronger each time.

Adaptability: The legal world is always changing, especially in areas like intellectual property. You’ve got to be able to roll with the punches. Whether it’s learning new laws or embracing new tech, being adaptable has kept me on my toes and relevant.

Passion: I love what I do. Helping people protect their ideas and navigate the legal maze is what gets me out of bed in the morning. That drive pushes me to go the extra mile for my clients and keeps me excited about what’s next.

Ok, thank you for that. Let’s now jump to the primary focus of our interview about young entrepreneurs secrets to rapid growth and success. To start, how would you define success?

Success, to me, is about achieving your goals and finding fulfillment in what you do. It’s not just about financial gains or reaching a particular status; it’s about feeling satisfied with your accomplishments and making a positive impact.

Success can look different for everyone, whether it’s building a thriving business, making a difference in your community, or finding personal happiness and fulfillment. Ultimately, it’s about striving towards your dreams and feeling proud of what you’ve achieved along the way.

What unconventional strategy did you employ that significantly contributed to your startup’s growth, and why do you think it was so effective?

One unconventional strategy that significantly contributed to my startup’s growth was leveraging social media to provide free educational content on intellectual property and business. Rather than solely focusing on traditional marketing tactics, we took a more educational approach by sharing valuable information for free. By providing high-quality educational content, we positioned ourselves as experts in our field and built trust with our audience. This helped us attract potential clients who were already engaged and interested in our services.

Our content was shareable, leading to organic growth through word-of-mouth marketing. When people found our content helpful, they were more likely to share it with their networks, increasing our reach and visibility.

Consistently sharing educational content helped us establish thought leadership in our industry, differentiate ourselves from competitors, and drive growth by adding value beyond our legal services.

Can you share a critical pivot point in your startup’s journey and how you navigated the decision-making process?

A critical moment for our startup was when we realized our original target market wasn’t quite right. We started off aiming at small businesses, but we found a bigger demand among individual creators and startups.

To make this decision, we did a lot of digging. We talked to potential clients, checked out the competition, and really looked at where the market was going.

Once we decided to pivot, we made some changes. We updated our website, started reaching out to creators and startups, and adjusted our marketing strategy.

Throughout all this, communication was key. We kept our team in the loop and made sure our existing clients knew what was going on. And it paid off — our pivot opened up a whole new world of opportunities for us.

How do you balance the need for rapid growth with maintaining a sustainable and healthy company culture?

Balancing fast growth with a healthy company culture is crucial for long-term success. First off, keep everyone in the loop about our goals, strategies, and challenges. When everyone knows what’s going on, they feel more connected and committed.

Encourage teamwork and inclusivity. When we work together and support each other, we can achieve so much more. Invest in our team’s development and well-being. Training, mentorship, and making sure everyone has a good work-life balance are all important.

Stick to our core values and mission. They’re what guides us, so let’s make sure they’re always at the forefront. Lastly, listen to our team. Regular check-ins and feedback sessions help us understand their needs and keep them happy and motivated.

In short, keeping communication open, fostering teamwork, investing in our team, sticking to our values, and listening to feedback are all vital for keeping our company culture strong while we grow.

In what ways has your personal definition of success evolved since the inception of your startup?

Since starting my business, how I define success has changed. At first, it was all about hitting specific goals like revenue targets and getting clients. But now, I see success differently.

It’s not just about the numbers; it’s about the impact we make. Success is about the relationships we build, the problems we solve, and the positive changes we bring. Seeing our clients thrive and knowing we’ve helped them is what really counts.

Personal growth and fulfillment have become important too. It’s about feeling passionate and happy with the work we do, always learning and getting better. I’ve realized that my own growth is just as important as financial success. And work-life balance has become a big deal. In the beginning, I was all about growing the business, but I’ve learned that success is also about taking care of myself and finding balance.

Overall, success for me isn’t just about hitting targets; it’s about making an impact, growing personally, and finding balance in life.

One piece of advice I wish I had received at the start of my journey is to embrace failure as a learning opportunity. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes or encounter setbacks; they’re an inevitable part of the entrepreneurial journey. Instead of letting failures discourage you, use them as valuable lessons to grow and improve. Every setback is a chance to learn, adapt, and come back stronger. So, don’t fear failure; embrace it, learn from it, and keep pushing forward.

You are a person of great influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger. 🙂

I would start a movement focused on fostering entrepreneurial education and opportunities for young people from all backgrounds.
