Keeping In Touch With Your Intuition: Kate May On How To Get In Touch With Your Intuition And When To Trust Your Intuition When Making Decisions

Constantly touching base with your authentic self. I think a lot of shadow work helps if you have blocked your intuition, really getting to know yourself at your core, warts and all! Looking at your astrology chart really helps here to gain a better insight to yourself, accepting yourself and managing the parts you may not like, but also highlighting the parts you love.

Intuition is defined as the ability to understand something immediately without the need for conscious reasoning. Where does intuition come from? Can it be trusted? How can someone tune in to their intuition? To address these questions, we are talking to business leaders, coaches, mental health experts, authors, and anyone who is an authority on “How to Get In Touch With Your Intuition And When To Trust Your Intuition When Making Decisions.” As a part of this series, I had the pleasure of interviewing Kate May.

Kate is a renowned International psychic medium, tarot reader, and spiritual teacher based in Portsmouth,UK. With a lifelong passion for spirituality and the mystical arts, Kate’s journey began at a young age, where she would engage in tea leaf readings with her grandmother and explore topics such as astrology and the afterlife. From there, Kate experienced life as a pier astrologist in her teens, and delved into various spiritual practices, including astrology, numerology, tarot, and mediumship.

Thank you so much for doing this with us! Before we start, our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you tell us a bit about your childhood backstory?

I had a wonderful childhood with a very loving and close family. Loving until my late teens with my mum, dad and younger brother. We lived next door to my paternal nan, and close to my maternal grandparents. We would have family holidays at my Aunts in bristol, which ive continued with my children. I was always encouraged to do my best, know my own truth regardless of what others felt and never put pressure on my shoulders.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?

Be nice to everyone on the way up as you never know who you may meet on the way down! It was a saying that has always stuck encouraging a kind approach to anyone just in case! At infant school there were a couple of bullies who would always break my headbands, and just cause myself and others grief. When I was in my late 20s,as a beauty therapist, I was invited to do a waxing party at a friend’s house. Laid on my couch ready for her eyebrow wax was one of the bullies.

She looked up at me as I applied the hot wax and said quietly:”I’m sorry I was horrible to you, please don’t hurt me now.” It was a little moment of joy as I smiled and ripped that wax off! Of course I didn’t deliberately cause any unnecessary pain, but it reaffirmed to me you never know what’s in the future, I would never have thought 20 years later, I would be standing over my bully with hot wax!

Is there a particular book, podcast, or film that made a significant impact on you? Can you share a story or explain why it resonated with you so much?

The book for me that changed my life was “feel the fear and do it anyway”. I read that and got out of a domestic violence relationship that I had feared for several years. There was something empowering about that book that switched a light on for me, awakening me, allowing me to feel the fear and jump anyway. Born Free was a film i would watch over and over, along with that inspired my love of animals and the unconditional love they give, along with international velvet, both my all time favourtie films, international velvet inspired my creative side as a child, I would set up horse jumps in my front room with stacked video tapes and my sindy dolls, that film inspired me to take unconventional risks and follow my heart.

Let’s now shift to the main part of our discussion. Let’s begin with a definition of terms so that each of us and our readers are on the same page. What exactly does intuition mean? Can you explain?

To me, intuition is your soul talking to you, your inner voice that knows the secrets to your best purpose. At times we hold this back or don’t acknowledge this when are heads and ego take over, and that is were our most common mistakes will be made, when we are truly intune with our inner voice, our intuition, and let our ego go, we can be at peace, make the right choices for our individual self, and choose the better paths. It took me many many years to listen to that voice.

I recall being around 20 and knowing I wasn’t in the right relationship, but I so wanted it to work even though deep down in my intuition, I knew it wouldn’t work out, I wanted to prove myself and others wrong, I think, I was listening to My ego. One day I reached into my draw where my Tarot cards were and pulled one randomly, it was the 8 of cups, walk away! I felt it pull on my gut and intuition straight away, but I just didn’t want to listen so I quickly put it back and didn’t look at the cards again for many years! Ignored all my signs and carried on for another 4 or 5 years, until I eventually listened to what my intuition had been telling me!

How would you define common sense? Are intuition and common sense related?

For me, common sense is using your conscious side of your brain, and intuition, your subconscious, common sense and be like don’t put your head in an oven, but intuition can lead you to all manor of places! You feel it with intuition, rather than thinking it with common sense.

What are the positive aspects of being in touch with your intuition? Can you give a story or example to explain what you mean?

When you are truly aligned with your intuition, life becomes more simple, well for me that’s how it’s worked.

As a people pleaser I spent many years forsaking my journey in order to help others, despite my intuition telling me otherwise, many times I knew I should have gotten out of situations but I stayed to please others which also fed my ego.

Once I finally listened to my intuition and experienced harsh lessons from supposed friendship groups, I finally walked away.

I trusted the universe that change would bring a better plan, and listened to my intuition that had been telling me for a long time, these people were not really my friends.

Everything then realigned in such a more perfect and easier way, my work progressed immensely, my true inner happiness and inner peace improved.

Life flowed much easier, and I was able to let go of trying to fix others’ crowns and be ok with fixing my own.

Are there negative aspects to being guided by intuition? Can you give a story or example to explain what you mean?

I actually don’t have any negative aspects from following your own intuition. I just wish I had learnt to listen earlier in life.

Can you give some guidance about when one should make a decision based on their intuition and when one should use other methods to come to a decision?

I think as we are living in such a changeable world right now, this answer could easily change with it!

For me at the moment, I would say if something feels right, do it and if it doesn’t don’t!

That way if it doesn’t work out, at least it felt right at the time. Not everything will work out exactly as planned but our intuition will lead us to the right path for the right experiences of our soul’s plan and purpose.

Common sense usually takes over, but sometimes that pull is just too strong to ignore.

From your experience or perspective, what are some of the common barriers that hold someone back from trusting their intuition?

I think for me, from my experience, age and experiences is a major one, as we grow, we grow in ourselves a lot more. We worry more about what others think when we are younger and that can have a major set back. Trust and faith will also play major factors in holding you back, if you don’t trust yourself, have the confidence, or faith in the universe, others or, and yourself, this will set boundaries, for sure.

Other setbacks could be family influences and beliefs especially when we are younger.

There could also be material and financial issues that people feel could set them back from what their intuition is telling them. The fear that has been created and installed within many of us from a young age that security comes in the form of a house or job, means being happy and successful. When in reality and spiritually we really do not — in fact being free of material concerns is probably what we strive for after being conditioned in the opposite.

Society tries to put many boundaries in our way, fortunately a lot of us are waking up to this more and more now.

What are five methods that someone can use to become more in touch with their intuition?

1 . Sitting in our power — just sitting with no noise, no music, just you and your own self, not looking for guidance or messages, just being at one.

2 . Meditation — Using meditative methods will help with quieting down the conscious mind, and waking the subconscious where you can tap into that gut feeling vibration easier.

3 . Asking yourself simple questions such as what feels right about this or that or wrong about this or that, practicing when the right feeling takes a hold, and then using this to strengthen the vibration, just like you would any muscle, think of your intuition as being an inner muscle that needs help flexing. Be completely honest and with yourself, imagine you are the only one in the world how would you react to this or that then.

5 . Loving yourself and doing what feels good will activate your chakras and strengthen your intuition, following a path that aligns with your soul. When you do things that don’t feel good or aligned and your intuition feels off, you start to notice when it feels off.

You are a person of significant influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be?

Being honest with your true core. Talking to yourself at the core level and knowing your truth, what feels right and what doesn’t. Loving yourself to know what really matters, following your own inner voice, not from what others project.

Life does not need to be hard, I actually don’t think it is meant to be as hard as we sometimes make it. God or the creator, has given us the creation of life and yet we seem to misuse it and go off in all manor of crazy direction searching for happiness and peace, when we have it already within us all the while.

If we can only slow down and be quiet enough to listen to it we would find all our answers and solutions there. Taking personal responsibility to change in our lives what we do not like or accepting what we cant change is so much easier than fighting everyday. We have more power then we realise, and our intuition is made up of that power that connects to our soul’s plan of finding inner peace.

Is there a person in the world whom you would love to have lunch with, and why? Maybe we can tag them and see what happens!

Joan Collins would be the top one, her strength as a woman in a male dominant industry has been incredible, she could have easily been led down many a garden path, but her instincts knew she had her own path to go down.
