“Starting a Movement to Teach and Inspire an Upcoming Generation of Motion Artists” with Troy Christopher Plota
“I love being called the “Father” of Motion Art and Photo Animation. That really makes me happy, but also comes with a great deal of responsibility. Now that we have our own Digital Sharing Platform and Social App it really gives me a great opportunity to teach and inspire the upcoming generation of Motion Artists.”
I had the pleasure to interview Troy Christopher Plota, the founder of the app Plotaverse. Troy has been an award winning professional photographer for over 30 years. His work has appeared in top magazines including Vanity Fair, GQ, Rolling Stone, and many more. His advertising work has also appeared on dozens of billboards in New York’s Times Square, as well as on the Vegas strip. At the age of 13, Troy picked up his first camera and started shooting and at 21, he opened the doors to his own studio. Plunging into the App business, Troy quickly realized that his 30 year experience as a professional Photographer gave him a vital edge over his competition, excelling him to the forefront of Technology.
Thank you so much for doing this with us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
Aloha! Thank you so much for having me. Yes, here is a little bit of background. My family immigrated to the U.S. from Europe. My grandparents had risked their lives to create new opportunities for us. When I was 13, I picked up my first camera and started shooting. By the time I turned 21, I had opened the doors to my own studio. Being a Tech entrepreneur turned out to be much different in nature than running a Photography Studio. Plunging into the App business, I realized that my 30 years of experience as a professional Photographer was giving me the vital edge over my competition. It enabled me to excel to the forefront of technology! Today, Facebook lists Plotaverse as top 5 photo apps, and MarketWatch lists Plotagraph Pro for desktop as top 2018 animation “Product Innovation and Introduction”.
What do you think makes your company stand out? Can you share a story?
Plotaverse was created by artists for artists. The Plotagraph motion is so unusual to the human eye that it draws and keeps the audience’s attention. That’s why Plotagraphs stand out in even the most saturated media feeds and get at least three times more engagement than all surrounding posts. Plotaverse has consistently created the most viral, visual content of all photo apps on the market.
A great story is Paris Hilton, who turned out to be one of our very first PlotaFX users. When she started posting Plotagraphs on Instagram, her engagement blew up. She’s successfully promoting her fragrances, her new Viceland TV show, and public events with Plotagraph posts. Our PlotaFX video overlays are working really well for her. She’s getting over a million views on her most recent Plotagraphs. There’s no partnership by the way! She’s doing all of this on her own. We also see other brands and influencers like Kim Kardashian, Gary Vaynerchuck, Ariana Grande, Landrover, GoPro, and Fall Out Boy using Plotagraphs to draw attention and win fans and audiences.
Are you working on any exciting new projects now? How do you think that will help people?
Facebook recently put us on the “Top 5 Photo Apps” list for their Advertising Platform and also added us to their Facebook Marketing Partners Program. This is going to be a great way to show Influencers and small businesses the power of Plotaverse and how important Motion Art is, now and into the future.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story about that?
Photographer/Influencer Trey Ratcliff was one of our first fans when we were still in beta. Trey promoted us to his community and we immediately blew up. My Team and I will always be grateful for Trey being there for us from the beginning.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
Some of my favorite stories from our customers are when I hear that Artists are making money using our software. We also have many stories from Photographers who have landed jobs from clients seeing their images animated. Anytime I can help an Artist get noticed and help them monetize their passion really makes me happy. I feel that I am helping the Artist community as well as customers who tell me that animating images helps them in their life and business.
You are a person of great influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be?
I love being called the “Father” of Motion Art and Photo Animation. That really makes me happy, but also comes with a great deal of responsibility. Now that we have our own Digital Sharing Platform and Social App it really gives me a great opportunity to teach and inspire the upcoming generation of Motion Artists.
Some of the biggest names in Business, VC funding, Sports, and Entertainment read this column. Is there a person in the world, or in the US with whom you would love to have a private breakfast or lunch with, and why? He or she might just see this if we tag them 🙂
Great question! There are so many people I would like to meet with. My first response is Tony Robbins. I recently watched his “I am Not Your Guru” documentary on Netflix and was blown away. I haven’t followed Tony in years but after seeing his documentary, I realized what an amazing person he really is. The amount of passion he has to help humanity is very inspiring.
