Thank you so much for doing this with us! Before we dive in, our readers would love to learn a bit more about you. Can you tell us a bit about your “childhood backstory”?

Certainly. My journey into the world of marketing and entrepreneurship was influenced by my early exposure to the power of communication. I grew up in a multicultural family, which gave me a unique perspective on the importance of effective communication to bridge gaps and connect with diverse audiences. This early lesson in the value of understanding different perspectives has been a driving force in my career.

Can you share with us the story of the “ah ha” moment that led to the creation of the food or beverage brand you are leading?

We are the leading agency for content creation in the food and beverage industry and the idea behind The Social Savvy was born from my realization that businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, needed a partner who could help them navigate the complex and ever-evolving landscape of digital marketing. The “ah-ha” moment was when I saw that my background in marketing, my passion for entrepreneurship, and my desire to help others could come together to create a marketing agency that could truly make a difference for businesses striving to succeed in the digital age when it comes to the food and beverage industry.

Can you share a story about the funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?

One memorable mistake was during my early days when I accidentally sent an email to the wrong client with a content sample. While it was humorous in hindsight, it taught me the importance of sharing work samples. We turned it into an opportunity to strengthen our client relationships by creating a content strategy that incorporated that service as well.

What are the most common mistakes you have seen people make when they start a food or beverage line? What can be done to avoid those errors?

One common mistake is underestimating the importance of market research. To avoid this, aspiring food or beverage entrepreneurs should thoroughly research their target audience, competition, and industry trends. Additionally, not having a solid business plan can lead to challenges. To avoid this, it’s crucial to create a detailed plan that outlines everything from production to distribution and marketing strategies.

Let’s imagine that someone reading this interview has an idea for a product that they would like to produce. What are the first few steps that you would recommend that they take?

The initial steps are crucial. Start with comprehensive market research to understand your target audience and competitors. Then, develop a business plan outlining your product, production, distribution, and marketing strategies. Next, seek mentorship or guidance from industry experts who can provide valuable insights. Lastly, create a prototype or sample of your product for testing and refinement.

Many people have good ideas all the time. But some people seem to struggle in taking a good idea and translating it into an actual business. How would you encourage someone to overcome this hurdle?

To overcome this hurdle, focus on taking small, actionable steps. Break down your idea into manageable tasks and set achievable goals. Seek advice from mentors or advisors who can offer guidance. Remember that setbacks are part of the journey; learn from them and adapt. Building a business takes time and persistence, so stay committed to your vision.

There are many invention development consultants. Would you recommend that a person with a new idea hire such a consultant, or should they try to strike out on their own?

It depends on the individual’s expertise and resources. Hiring a consultant can provide valuable guidance, especially for those new to entrepreneurship. However, many successful entrepreneurs have started without consultants by conducting thorough research and seeking advice from their network. It ultimately comes down to your comfort level and available resources.

What are your thoughts about bootstrapping vs looking for venture capital? What is the best way to decide if you should do either one?

Bootstrapping can provide more control and flexibility but may limit initial growth. Seeking venture capital can offer significant resources but may involve giving up equity and relinquishing some control. The decision should align with your business goals, growth strategy, and financial situation. Evaluate your short-term and long-term objectives to determine which approach is the best fit.

Can you share thoughts from your experience about how to file a patent, how to source good raw ingredients, how to source a good manufacturer, and how to find a retailer or distributor?

Filing a patent requires legal expertise, so consulting with a patent attorney is advisable. Sourcing good raw ingredients involves building relationships with suppliers, focusing on quality, and ensuring consistency. Finding a manufacturer requires research, vetting, and possibly visiting facilities. Identifying retailers or distributors involves networking, attending industry events, and understanding their specific requirements.

Here is the main question of our discussion. What are your “5 Things You Need To Create a Successful Food or Beverage Brand” and why?

Exceptional Quality: High-quality products build trust and loyal customers.

Effective Marketing: A solid marketing strategy ensures your brand reaches the right audience.

Market Research: In-depth research helps you understand consumer preferences and trends.

Innovation: Constantly innovate to stay ahead of the competition and meet evolving consumer demands.

Consistency: Consistency in product quality, branding, and customer experience is key to building a strong brand identity.

Can you share your ideas about how to create a product that people really love and are ‘crazy about’?

Creating a beloved product involves deeply understanding your audience, identifying pain points, and addressing them uniquely. Listen to customer feedback, iterate on your product, and continually strive for excellence. Build an emotional connection with your customers by aligning with their values and providing exceptional customer service.

Ok. We are nearly done. Here are our final questions. How have you used your success to make the world a better place?

At The Social Savvy, we actively engage in pro bono work for bars and restaurants, showing them how we can help amplify their missions through effective digital marketing. We believe in giving back to the community and contributing to causes that make a positive impact on society. Our success is not only measured in financial terms but also in the positive change we bring to the world. Our team will provide one free on site video shoot to show you the content we can produce. We will show you what we can bring to the table, while showing the world what you put on yours.

You are an inspiration to a great many people. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be? You never know what your idea can trigger.

I’d inspire a movement focused on promoting empathy and understanding across diverse cultures and backgrounds. By fostering global empathy, we can break down barriers, reduce conflicts, and collectively work towards solutions to some of the world’s most pressing issues. Empathy is the bridge to a more inclusive and compassionate world.

Thank you for the insightful questions, and I appreciate the opportunity to share my experiences and insights with your readers.
