Keeping In Touch With Your Intuition: Emily Pogany Of MASAH On How To Get In Touch With Your Intuition And When To Trust Your Intuition When Making Decisions

Meditation. We don’t necessarily have to sit for an hour in silence, but we do need to regularly find time to get quiet and find stillness to learn the distinct differences between our intuition, ego, and a dysregulated nervous system. We can also harness meditation to help us in deciphering how our intuition is communicating with us, meaning which of our gifts are the strongest, and what it’s trying to tell us.

Intuition is defined as the ability to understand something immediately without the need for conscious reasoning. Where does intuition come from? Can it be trusted? How can someone tune in to their intuition? To address these questions, we are talking to business leaders, coaches, mental health experts, authors, and anyone who is an authority on “How to Get In Touch With Your Intuition And When To Trust Your Intuition When Making Decisions.” As a part of this series, I had the pleasure of interviewing Emily Pogany.

Emily Pogany is an Intuitive Holistic Healer, Psychic Medium, and the founder of MASAH — a spiritual lifestyle brand. & wellness co, currently offering her signature Chakra Caramels, designed to promote self-care, conscious indulgence, and more mindfulness throughout your day. Emily’s spiritual journey and approach to daily ritual led her to create MASAH with the mission of offering multi-sensory, tangible reminders for self-connection. After years of honing her intuitive gifts and inner growth, Emily discovered the ‘recipe’ for a more pleasurable life that combines the practice of daily introspection, meaningful connection, and aligned action, all working together to nurture the mind, body, and soul.

Thank you so much for doing this with us! Before we start, our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you tell us a bit about your childhood backstory?

I was a self-conscious, witchy kid with a sweet disposition and an even bigger sweet tooth! Basically if there was candy or a dessert involved in something I didn’t want to do, I could be easily bribed. Anyway, the youngest of three, I grew up with a father who was a pharmacist and a strong advocate for both holistic wellness alongside western medicine. In fact, he was one of the inspirations for MASAH.

From a young age, I always felt different. I loved supernatural movies like The Craft, Death Becomes Her, and Hocus Pocus. They felt more “real” to me than my everyday life. Looking back, I realized that my interests were deeply connected to my soul and my inner knowing that magic was real. Movies and TV shows like these offered an escape from a reality where I wasn’t always sure where I fit in. I was active and had plenty of friends, but it often felt like I was just going through the motions of what it meant to be a “normal” kid. But fortunately, I lived in a home where even if my interests weren’t directly nurtured, I had the safety and space to explore what lit me up. And speaking of family, mine was one who got together every holiday to share laughter and love over meals. For a Jewish family, you can only imagine how often this was with all the holidays we have and how lively we were! There was nothing my grandparents loved more than witnessing us all come together during these times- they were also inspirations for MASAH.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?

One of my favorite mottos to live by is, “The answer is always no until you ask.” I believe this mindset can significantly boost our confidence by pushing us outside our comfort zones and showing us what we’re truly capable of. Throughout my life, I’ve faced feelings of unworthiness and inadequacy, but I eventually reached a point where I had to confront those fears head-on. I asked myself, “What’s the worst that could happen if I put myself out there in pursuit of my dreams and desires?” Sometimes, we need to ask ourselves, “Will I die if they say no?” Reframing our relationship with rejection is essential — it helps us learn from our experiences, pivot when necessary, and keep moving forward toward our dreams, rather than shutting down and avoiding vulnerability altogether. Continually taking bold action on what I want to accomplish has provided moments of rejection which invited an opportunity for re-alignment, and surprised and delighted me in ways I didn’t expect. Both of these experiences have helped shape me as a person and a business owner because I use them as invitations for self-reflection, gathering new information every time.

Is there a particular book, podcast, or film that made a significant impact on you? Can you share a story or explain why it resonated with you so much?

There are two books that really changed my life. The first is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, which I read at the start of my first spiritual awakening and taught me a lot of synchronicity and how life is really about the journey, not the destination. The second is called Journey of Souls — Life Between Lives by Dr. Michael Newton. This one is all about case studies of hundreds of people who, in a state of hypnosis, weren’t taken back to past lives but their life between lives. It dives deep into purpose, soul connection, death, rebirth, and the lessons we take away after each lifetime. It has brought me and so many people I know so much comfort and understanding after experiencing loss and making the most of the life that we have now.

Let’s now shift to the main part of our discussion. Let’s begin with a definition of terms so that each of us and our readers are on the same page. What exactly does intuition mean? Can you explain?

Intuition is both the inherent knowledge & wisdom from our soul as well as the channel of communication between our spiritual and physical experience. Each and every one of us is a soul having a human experience. We are energy and energy can neither be created nor destroyed. And our energetic being reacts and responds via vibration, just like a WiFi signal. So when you hear someone speak about the different Clairs — clairaudience, clairvoyance, etc., those are the different ways we’re able to interpret, distinguish, and translate that vibration through our physical form. Our body is that bridge, making it the easiest intuitive channel we have! Think about when you walk into a room after two people just got into an argument and as the saying goes, the tension is so thick we can cut it with a knife. Or say you’ve met someone you’ve never met before, but you have that odd sensation that you’ve known them for lifetimes. Intuition is subtle but it’s always communicating with us in various forms and it’s our responsibility to pay attention and strengthen that channel so that it becomes nearly impossible to miss!

How would you define common sense? Are intuition and common sense related?

Common sense to me still relates directly to the ego and the learned human experience, because what one person views as common sense might be completely new information to someone else, especially if they grew up in a very different situation, environment, or circumstance. Intuition and common sense are completely different from one another.

How are they different from each other?

Intuition also differs from common sense because it’s deeply personal to our individual experiences, whereas common sense takes into account things like basic manners, expectations of ways of being, etc.

What are the positive aspects of being in touch with your intuition? Can you give a story or example to explain what you mean?

Our intuition is our greatest asset and ally we have in life, and I believe it is only a positive. Having a clear and open connection with our intuition supports us in aligning with what’s meant for us in regards to relationships, careers, and opportunities. It helps us make clear, level-headed choices that support our health & wellness, it keeps us safe from harm, and can help us tap into a life full of joy and abundance. Building a relationship with my intuition has saved and changed my life because had I not started to turn inwards years ago, I would have continued to seek out what I, and we, are ultimately meant to source from within like love and validation. My mental health would have continued to suffer and I would’ve continued to feel anxious and depressed, repeating the same kinds of patterns I needed to change because I wasn’t learning why things were unfolding the way they were in the first place, and I wouldn’t have gotten to know who I really was because I was too busy stressing about who I was “supposed to be”. By being able to look at our shadow using our intuition, we’re able to extract information that will always lead us to a breakthrough and invoke the change we desire to experience in our lives.

Are there negative aspects to being guided by intuition? Can you give a story or example to explain what you mean?

There are absolutely no negative aspects to being guided by your intuition because at the end of the day, everything is either a lesson or a blessing, and an opportunity for our souls’ highest growth and evolution. If anyone ever tells you that there is anything negative by heeding your intuition, run in the opposite direction! It’s our intuition that is the direct path to our freedom, personal power, and sovereignty.

Can you give some guidance about when one should make a decision based on their intuition and when one should use other methods to come to a decision?

I believe intuition should always lead, but in partnership with logic. The challenge with the mind is that it’s often clouded by our biases, programming, and even past trauma. In contrast, when our intuition is clear, it guides us toward what’s best for us, even if it doesn’t always make sense on paper. The mind is limited and has its own agenda, whereas our intuition is expansive and limitless. The soul seeks to lead us through our heart space, guiding us toward what will support our growth and bring us closer to what we truly desire. Once we tune into our intuition, that’s when we can consult logic and common sense to make a grounded decision.

From your experience or perspective, what are some of the common barriers that hold someone back from trusting their intuition?

Fear is usually #1. Fear of the unknown, fear of challenging what we already know and perceive to be true, and previous experiences of getting hurt when we did trust our intuition. I think there’s a misconception that when we follow our intuition, everything is easy and will always feel amazing which is far from true. Life is full of duality and part of why we’re here is to experience growing pains. Just because we experience rejection or get our heart broken doesn’t mean our intuition was wrong. Sometimes we just need to take the action we’re guided to take because it’ll get us closer to who and where we’re supposed to be.

What are five methods that someone can use to become more in touch with their intuition?

2 . Nervous system regulation tools and practices. One of the biggest blocks to the true connection we have with our soul is a dysregulated nervous system and can often cause confusion with our intuition. For example, there might be a time we’re in freeze and in avoidance that we might believe is our intuition telling us something isn’t in alignment. I personally turn to breathwork and EFT tapping, but highly recommend working with a facilitator specializing in trauma coaching along with spirituality.

3 . Shadow work. Often incorporating mindset work, we need to be able to identify our blindspots, observe and question our subconscious beliefs which are creating our individual realities, and deconstruct past programming containing trauma, past identities, and the energy from which we’re creating our daily habits.

4 . Movement and bodywork. Again, the body is the bridge and we need to continually make sure our channels are clear and we’re keeping our energy moving.

5 . Emotional intelligence work. Feeling and processing our feelings as they arise. This one goes hand in hand with #4. Emotions are energy in motion and any time we have physical pain or chronic illness, it’s because the body is holding onto emotional energy trying to be expressed.

You are a person of significant influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be?

Self-connection. Ever since I was little, my greatest wish was that we had a kinder world. Hurt people hurt people because they don’t take the time to turn inwards and do the work. But think about how much better off we’d all be if we all became accountable and responsible for our energetic output?

Is there a person in the world whom you would love to have lunch with, and why? Maybe we can tag them and see what happens!

Oh boy, quite a few! AJ McLean from the Backstreet Boys, Walton Goggins, Dylan Lauren who created Dylan’s Candy Bar, Melissa Wood, Gweneth Paltrow to name a few!
