Keeping In Touch With Your Intuition: Terri Jay Of Cowgirl Shaman On How To Get In Touch With Your Intuition And When To Trust Your Intuition When Making Decisions

An Interview With Maria Angelova

Get out of your own way. Over thinking, over analyzing, being stuck, questioning the intuitive information are all ways that impede intuitive abilities. With practice, you will get answers while you are asking mental questions and the over analyzing will go away.

Intuition is defined as the ability to understand something immediately without the need for conscious reasoning. Where does intuition come from? Can it be trusted? How can someone tune in to their intuition? To address these questions, we are talking to business leaders, coaches, mental health experts, authors, and anyone who is an authority on “How to Get In Touch With Your Intuition And When To Trust Your Intuition When Making Decisions.” As a part of this series, I had the pleasure of interviewing Terri Jay.

Three sentence bio — Terri Jay is an author, intuitive life coach, medium, animal communicator and more. She helps people and their animals to heal their lives with the messages she receives. She is a speaker, clinician and entertainer and was recently featured in the Peacock series Paul T. Goldman for her work with his personal issues.

Thank you so much for doing this with us! Before we start, our readers would love to “get to know you” a bit better. Can you tell us a bit about your childhood backstory?

I grew up horse crazy, showing horses on a professional level as a teenager. I always wanted to make my living with horses so in my 20’s, I started a non-profit therapeutic riding program for disabled kids. It was while doing this program in 1990 that I “heard” a non-verbal disabled child speak to me. Once I had it confirmed, the suggestion was made to learn to communicate with the horses because all animals are telepathic. One thing has led to another and now I know that there are no limits to the types of information that can be discerned from the Universe, from animals, from both people and pets on the other side and even from your Higher Self.

Can you please give us your favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? My favorite quote is “With Source, all things are possible.” Can you share how that was relevant to you in your life?

There were so many times in my life where I wanted to give up and even check out. This quote kept me going and always proved to be correct. Sometimes it just wasn’t the right time and even when negative things happened, they ended up having a positive impact on the other side of the problem.

Is there a particular book, podcast, or film that made a significant impact on you? Can you share a story or explain why it resonated with you so much?

There are two films that really helped me in my journey. The first one is “The Secret” which talks about the Law of Attraction. It has turned me into a manifestor so I know, whatever I want, I can manifest with my thoughts and feelings. I have incredible abundance, great health and fabulous relationships. The second movie is “What the Bleep do We Know?” This movie was incredible because it taught me that even my work, doing readings of all types, is based in physics, not woo-woo stuff. Quantum physics is still fascinating to me, even though I’m a cowgirl. I think it teaches me to feel for, see and hear things that are not physically present in the Earthly realm.

Let’s now shift to the main part of our discussion. Let’s begin with a definition of terms so that each of us and our readers are on the same page. What exactly does intuition mean? Intuition is knowledge without conscious thought. Can you explain?

I believe that intuition includes clairvoyance (clear seeing), clair-sentience (clear feeling), clair-audience (clear hearing) and clair-cognizance (clear knowing). Using all of these specific abilities together is what gives us intuition and telepathy.

How would you define common sense? Common sense is the ability to think and behave in a reasonable way and make good decisions. Are intuition and common sense related?

I think they can be related but we have to learn to listen in a different way if we are going to use our intuitive abilities because sometimes intuition will override our common sense to our benefit.

How are they different from each other?

Common sense is usually inherent within us. We don’t find it necessary to turn it off. We are born with intuition and the other energetic abilities, but we turn these off in childhood, usually because a well-meaning adult gets spooked by what we see or feel. I think we need to learn to turn our intuitive abilities back on in order to use them and trust the information that is coming through for us. It’s a skill set that needs to be developed.

What are the positive aspects of being in touch with your intuition?

I use my intuitive abilities every moment of every day. I think one aspect of intuition is learning to tune into your Guides. Mine are telling me what to do all the time and it is always helpful information. Can you give a story or example to explain what you mean? I lump intuition and Guides into the same category. So I call my Guides “Bossy pants.” They constantly remind me to do the things throughout my day that need to get done. They also make suggestions of what to cook for meals, what to buy at the grocery store, what appointments I need to make, what my horses or dog needs and the list keeps going. I had a horse with laminitis and was treating her with pain meds and out of the blue, one of my Guides said, “Acuscope.” This is a great method of microcurrent therapy that is very beneficial, and I was grateful to be reminded to use it.

Are there negative aspects to being guided by intuition? Can you give a story or example to explain what you mean?

YES! In public situations, I am given or shown all kinds of personal issues, health, finances, relationships, etc. on strangers. It drives me nuts. I’m certainly not going to go up to someone and out of the blue start discussing what I am getting, even if I have information that can help them. Ambushing people with readings is incredibly unethical. So what am I going to do with all that information? It drives me nuts. When I am out in public, I never make eye contact, or I instantly know everything about that person.

Can you give some guidance about when one should make a decision based on their intuition and when one should use other methods to come to a decision?

I always recommend doing a Ben Franklin first. This method involves writing the decision to be made on the top of a piece of paper, drawing a line down the middle and writing “Pro” on one column and “Con” on the other. Then you need to put all of the pros and cons down in the proper columns. Once you have done that, then give them an importance rating of 1–5. Once you are done, then add up the columns and see which has a higher total. Then use your intuitive ability to try out both of the decisions.

From your experience or perspective, what are some of the common barriers that hold someone back from trusting their intuition?

I think lack of training can be a hindrance to learning to use intuition. Not knowing how to ground, staying in alignment, dropping into ego, personal blocks, emotional damage from childhood can also create issues with learning to trust their intuition.

Here is the central question of our discussion. What are five methods that someone can use to become more in touch with their intuition?

1 . Heal childhood traumas. I think this is the most important first step to learn to develop intuitive abilities. You need to be clear of old garbage to do this work. Everyone has them to some extent and they always involve having their power taken away. The easiest way to heal this and get your power back is to write letters to those who have disempowered you, tell them off, then burn the letters while saying out loud, “No one is ever going to treat me like that again!” It is simple but not easy yet can have dramatic results once completed.

2 . Get an ego-ectomy. You have to remove your ego and get rid of the need to be correct. There are times when you will receive wrong information and that wrong information will lead you to a positive outcome. You have to just get rid of thinking that you are somehow special because you learned how to use your intuitive abilities that everyone is born with. You’re not. I have done readings for people when Guidance has told me to tell them information that I knew to be wrong. I shared it anyway. The client has gotten back to me at a later date and shared how that wrong information led to a fabulous outcome.

3 . Get out of your own way. Over thinking, over analyzing, being stuck, questioning the intuitive information are all ways that impede intuitive abilities. With practice, you will get answers while you are asking mental questions and the over analyzing will go away.

4 . Learn to ground. Grounding is a critical component of doing intuitive work. While there are many different techniques to learn to ground, you just need to find one that you are comfortable with. It is done with visualization and intention. You will feel differently when you ground, more energized, relaxed, clear, focused. It involves growing roots out your feet and your tailbone, sending it to the center of the Earth, wrapping the roots around the Earth’s core and then bringing them back up. When they get to your feet, you want to spread the roots out and surround yourself with the Earth fire energy and leave it simmering about waist high. Then you open your Crown chakra, bring the white light down inside of you and around you and tie the two together. Then you are ready to go to work.

5 . LISTEN FASTER. I think this is the most important part of intuitive work and what most people miss. You will receive intuitive information AS you are starting to formulate your question. If you get too much into your question, you will miss the answer. This goes for animal communication, talking with those on the other side or just wanting to receive intuitive information.

You are a person of significant influence. If you could inspire a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be?

MEDICAL INTUITION/ENERGY HEALING! We are 99% energy and only 1% physical yet all of allopathic medicine is focused on the 1%. Medical intuition allows us to see the stuck negative emotions that cause dis-ease and then with simple energy healing techniques that anyone can learn to do for themselves, they can release the negative emotions and heal. These techniques have produced miracles and can produce miracles for anyone who is open to doing it, as long as they haven’t waited too long.

Is there a person in the world whom you would love to have lunch with, and why? Maybe we can tag them and see what happens!

Oprah. We have the same birthday. She has a huge platform, and not only could she spread the information about energy healing, but she might also be able to help me get my own show so I can help thousands of people, not just one at a time.
